Why speak with us?
One of the most important conversations in the caring space is about lived experience. After all - how can your carer or support team truly understand your needs, challenges and opportunities if they have not walked a mile in your shoes?
Answering this question has been at the heart of the Fraser Care experience and one of the main reasons that Katy Fraser decided to establish her enterprise and serve the community.
Only a few years ago, Katy was living in a very different world. Following a successful corporate and hospitality career, Katy had the opportunity to start her own family business which quickly became a very busy and rewarding experience for all involved. She had always enjoyed working with her hands, repairing things and renovating around home, and took some time out to embark on a fairly ambitious roof restoration project. This would prove to be a life changing decision.
Whilst making repairs at height, Katy fell from a two story residence through a pergola roof and suffered extensive spinal and skeletal damage along with a severe brain injury. Her treating physicians credit two burst ear drums as being major factors in her survival, without which they feared pressure in her skull would have ended her life before paramedics reached the site of the accident.
Katy’s recovery story is hers to tell in full (and she will if you ask her) but it involved learning the basics of day to day life all over again in her 40s whilst dealing with a business that was forced to operate around her and heart broken members of her family who were unsure where to turn. Katy didn’t have the knowledge or resources to set an ideal path back to normality - but found her own way through and committed that she would help others where she felt the system had failed her.
So it is with incredible compassion, vision and integrity that Katy built a care team who will start at the very beginning with you. From understanding the disability funding landscape, clinical pathways and daily care options, Katy and the Fraser Care team will be with you through your lived experience and assist you to get to where you want to be in your life journey.
